It's over eleven years since midfielder Chris McCann left us to join Wigan but now at 37 he has returned to a league club, joining League Two Salford City as their Lead Youth Development Coach.
Salford are making some big changes within their academy which has now stepped up to the Category 3 level. Jamie Russell has returned to the club as their academy manager, having held a similar role there between 2017 and 2020 before becoming Head of Football at Swindon.
Coming with him from Swindon is Danny Rose who will be the club's new Head of Academy Coaching while McCann comes in to work alongside them with particular attention towards the under-13 to under-16 age range.
He'll join a former Burnley team mate too and will alongside Dean Marney who joined Salford from Burnley earlier this year to become their under-18 coach.
McCann started his playing career with us and made 268 appearances for us before moving to Wigan. He also had spells with Coventry, Oldham and Burton as well as playing in America but now, at the age of 37, is taking up this academy role.
We wish him the very best.
