Referee Backhouse set for Turf Moor debut
11/25/2024 03:51 PM
Tomorrow's home game against Coventry will be refereed by Anthony Backhouse who will bne refereeing at Turf Moor for the first time.
His only previous Burnley game came last season in our League Cup tie at Salford which we won 4-0 and I cannot recall any contentious issues during that game.
His first Championship game was between Hull and Birmingham in December 2019 but it wasn't until last season that he won promotion to Select Group 2 and it was a season when he refereed at all three levels within the Football League.
This season he's refereed thirteen games in total. Eight of those have come in the Championship with one in League One, two in League Two and two in the League Cup. Those games have seen him show 51 yellow and two red cards. Of the yellows, 28 have gone to home team players and 23 to away team players.
He sent off QPR's Jack Colback in their 2-2 draw at Sheffield United back in August and more recently the second of his red cards came in the 1-1 draw between Swindon and Gillingham in League Two when he dismissed Swindon's Grant Hall in the ninth minute.
His most recent game was Watford's 1-0 win against Oxford on 8th November. There were seven yellow cards in that game with Watford picking up five of them for Ryan Porteous, James Morris, Festy Ebosele, Vakoun Bayo and Kwadwo Baah with Oxford's Elliott Moore and Josh McEachran also carded.
Lewis Smith is the fourth official for this game. The only time he has refereed a Burnley game was last season at Crystal Palace.
