The business side of things

Chelsea FC Women have now appointed Aki Mandhar as their first-ever dedicated CEO, following the team's recent restructuring to separate it from the men's side. This move is part of the club's long-term strategy to give the women's team its own leadership and resources.

Mandhar will oversee all business operations for Chelsea Women, after a 'thorough and extensive' search to fill the role. Her background in media, including roles at The New York Times and The Daily Telegraph, should serve her well in managing the team's off-pitch affairs.

"I am delighted to be joining Chelsea Women, particularly at such an exciting time in the club's history and women's football.

"Chelsea Women has long been a trailblazer in sport, with a rich history of success, and I'm incredibly proud to be leading the club into this new era in which we have huge opportunities to grow. I am thoroughly looking forward to getting started."

This appointment fits within the broader narrative of Chelsea's efforts to reshape their approach to women's football. With Mandhar now in place, the club is further positioning the women's side as an independent entity, suggesting a focus on self-sustainability. It's worth noting, however, that none of these moves — such as having dedicated resources or leadership — would have been impossible within the old, integrated structure.

"We are thrilled that Aki will be leading Chelsea Women into this exciting new chapter at a pivotal moment in women's football.

"She is a talented and dynamic leader, with a vision that will help the club fulfil its huge potential. Aki is a brilliant addition to an already strong and ambitious team, and we cannot wait to see what we can all achieve together."

Mandhar's role will officially start later this year. While the direction the club are taking seems clear, only time will tell how this latest chapter in Chelsea Women's story will unfold.
