Chelsea are considering a move for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi in the next summer transfer window, according to reports.

Guehi was Newcastle United’s No.1 target last summer but the Magpies failed to sign him, with Palace refusing to lower their £70m price tag.

The 24-year-old, capped 22 times by England, was recently praised by interim Three Lions boss Lee Carsley for being ‘fast and aggressive’.

Guehi has now attracted interest from his former club Chelsea, who are hoping the centre-back will be available for a cut-price fee next summer.

That’s according to talkSPORT, who add that Guehi is out of contract at the end of next season and is in no rush to commit to a new deal at Palace.

Guehi is a popular figure at Stamford Bridge having progressed through Chelsea’s academy and spending 14 years at the club from 2007 to 2021.

He only made two first-team appearances for the Blues, spending time out on loan at Swansea City before he was sold to Palace three years ago.

Guehi has majorly impressed for Palace since his arrival at Selhurst Park, which has seen break into the England team.

Carsley lauded Guehi earlier this month and said: ‘I made Marc captain when I was in charge of the Under-21s. He's a player who has shown leadership qualities throughout his career so far.

‘His maturity [is evident] not only on the pitch but off the pitch. he's moving in the right direction in terms of his quality.

‘He's playing really well at Palace in the games that I have seen and he's moving in the right direction in terms of his quality.

‘I still think there is a lot more to come from Marc. Physically, he's fast and he's aggressive.

‘On the ball, he is excellent as well so he just needs to keep improving. There's good competition for places in that centre-back position but Marc is definitely worthy of his position.’
