Chelsea reveal the greatest team in their history after fan vote

As part of Chelsea’s 120-year anniversary celebrations fans of the club have voted for the greatest team in the Blues’ history.
There are plenty of great names to choose from, although it is of no surprise that the majority come from when Chelsea became a serious title-winning force on a regular basis in the mid-2000s.
The west Londoners had won trophies in the past, but their golden era came after the arrival of Jose Mourinho, and perhaps the league-winning side of 1955 is not at the forefront of modern fans’ memories.
The ‘Team of 120’ also illustrates how international the club, and the wider Premier League, has become as just three Englishmen make it into the starting XI.
There are some big names to miss out, although these are mostly big names of yesteryear, including record appearance-maker Ron Harris.

Legendary names like Kerry Dixon, Jimmy Greaves, Roy Bentley, Peter Bonetti and Dennis Wise all miss out as well.
Still, there is not much arguing with how good the Team of 120 is, with world class players from 1-11, voted for by Blues fans.

In goal is Petr Cech, who was a stalwart of the club’s most successful era, making 494 appearances for the Blues and winning four Premier League titles and the Champions League.
The Czech stopper is behind a formidable back line of Cesar Azpilicueta, John Terry, Thiago Silva and Ashley Cole.
Terry seems the most obvious pick of the lot, making over 700 appearances for the club and winning five Premier League titles.
Silva showed his class to get voted in as he only joined the club at 35 years old when he signed from PSG in 2020, but was in the team that won the Champions League in 2021.
The Chelsea fans clearly like a tight midfield as they voted in both Claude Makelele and N’Golo Kante into their greatest ever team.
The two Frenchmen would not give away much and would be a nightmare for opposition midfielders, but wouldn’t offer much of a goal threat.
Luckily there is plenty of goal threat to come, starting with Frank Lampard who completes the midfield three.
The England regular scored a club record 211 goals in 648 appearances, a stunning tally from the middle of the park.
Up front in the 4-3-3 formation the Blues fans have voted for a brilliant trio of Eden Hazard, Gianfranco Zola and Didier Drogba.
Zola is the only player to make the cut who was at Stamford Bridge before the club entered into their most successful era.
However, the Italian is remembered extremely fondly after making over 300 appearances for the Blues and scoring 80 goals.
It was also a stint which involved plenty of silverware, just not the biggest titles, as he won two FA Cups, a Cup Winners’ Cup and the League Cup.
Hazard netted 110 times in 352 games for Chelsea, while Droga scored 157 in 341.
