Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella has admitted he thinks he is growing in popularity as his playing style reflects how people are in life and work.
Onda Cero cover comments from the Chelsea defender today made to Radioestadio Noche about his growing popularity.
The Spanish defender is undoubtedly enjoying something of a peak in his career after finally finding his feet for club and country.
He was a key player for Chelsea last season, bouncing back from a very difficult first season at the club to star under Mauricio Pochettino.
He continued that into the summer with Spain, where he was a key player for his country and played a starring role as they went on to win Euro 2024.
That's led to a growing status among both fanbases, who have already given the player his own song, with Spain fans spending the summer singing his name and hyping him up whenever he appeared.
That's not treatment that defenders, and particularly full backs, are accustomed to but the Chelsea man believes there is a specific reason he's ended up being so popular with modern fans.
“Football is changing because before people liked those who dribbled and scored and now many people like my style," he said.
"I am a boy who tries to give everything on the field, and I think that makes many people see themselves reflected in how their life is or how they are at work."
