(Video): Maresca addresses top 4 concerns as Chelsea make it 4 without a win

Chelsea's top 4 position looked like a given not long ago. The question was whether they were in the title race, not if they were going to reach the Champions League places.

2 points from a possible 12 in perhaps our easiest run of the season has changed all that. Now the Italian coach is back to being asked about his team's top 4 chances.

"Since we started we are there [in the top 4], but our focus is just game after game, to see where we are, how we can improve, and then the last 2 or 3 games we see where we are and then from there we see."

Well we wish we could believe they really were going game by game – but the impression of these last few matches is that the focus has very much been lost. A top four finish would still be better than what most expected before the season started, but the fact we were doing so well until Christmas will now make a 5th place finish feel a huge failure rather than a moderate success.

You can see the coach speaking in the clip embedded here:

Maresca must practice what he preaches and get this team back to basics

Enzo Maresca speaks to Sky Sports after a 1-1 draw.

A game against Morecambe in the FA Cup is up next, and will give the team the chance for a return to winning ways. But it probably won't count for much – all the attention will be on the midweek game against Bournemouth a few days later.

They are a very dangerous team, perfectly set up to rip a side like Chelsea apart if their belief is wobbling, which it really seems to be right now. There's no need to panic, but Maresca must really earn his wages this week on the training pitch.
