Nottingham Forest have been one of the surprise packages in the Premier League this season, which has seen Alan Shearer include two players from the City Ground in his team of the season so far.

It would be criminal not to include at least a couple of Nottingham Forest players in the Premier League Team of the Season so far, given the strong position they find themselves in.

The Reds currently sit in fifth position, joint on points with the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Brighton.

Nuno Espirito Santo has taken Forest from a side that could barely defend last season to the second-best defence in the top flight.

This has led to Alan Shearer picking three Nottingham Forest players in his Premier League Team of the Season so far, and their picks are rightly deserved.

Alan Shearer picks Chris Wood, Matz Sels and Nikola Milenkovic in his Premier League Team of the Season so far

It’s a wonderful feeling to see Nottingham Forest players finally getting the recognition they deserve at this moment, after being brushed aside at times in seasons gone by.

The three names that Alan Shearer has picked are both more than deserving of a place in the XI given.

Alan Shearer picked Chris Wood, Matz Sels and Nikola Milenkovic as the three players in his Premier League Team of the Season, as per the Premier League.

He had a few words to say on each of them .

Starting with Sels.

“Outstanding all season, pulling off some vital stops and commanding the box so well for a Forest side who have the second-best defensive record in the league.”

Milenkovic followed.

“The centre of Forest’s defence has been their strong point. His aerial dominance has been huge for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.”

Lastly, it was Wood.

“He’s having the season of his life, spearheading his team’s great start. He’s a proper No 9, with wingers playing either side of him, and it’s great to see that type of striker still thriving in the Premier League.”

Any notable absentees from the team of the season?

Murillo, Elliot Anderson and Ola Aina are three names that jump out as potential additions.

However, we understand that it can’t be a team full of Nottingham Forest players.

Aina and Wood are in line for new contracts at the City Ground, highlighting the fine performances they’ve put in so far this season.

Anderson finds himself as the top assister for Nottingham Forest this season, playing a huge part in Forest’s positive run in Morgan Gibbs-White’s absence.
