Evangelos Marinakis has worked tirelessly to get Nottingham Forest back to where a club of such a size should be.

Forest are now at the top table in the Premier League and in a couple of months the Reds might be back at the top table on the European stage too, with Champions League football in the team’s sights.

Marinakis wanted to sign a striker in the January window. However, he was left frustrated in his efforts to bolster Nuno Espirito Santo’s ranks for him.

That hasn’t fazed the Forest head coach though and Saturday’s 1-0 win over Manchester City has got the team back on track after two defeats and a draw in the top-flight.

The Forest squad right now is one to be proud of and the Reds are certainly doing the business on the transfer front after a few dicey windows in the Premier League.

Marinakis told he will profit massively over Forest star Murillo

Manchester City considered signing Murillo before the Reds swooped and based on his efforts against Pep Guardiola on Saturday, he might now be holding some regrets.

Forest paid just £10.6 million to complete the signing of Murillo. He’s since become one of the absolute best young defenders in Europe with a host of clubs in the mix to land him.

Now, South American football expert Tim Vickery believes that Forest showed some unreal scouting to take a chance on Murillo and bring him to the top-flight.

He told BBC Sport: “”This is a magnificent piece of scouting, an unbelievably brilliant piece of scouting. He got an opportunity at Corinthians through the sale of another player.

“It was 25 games and out. Forest must have had him on their radar after 10 first team performances and what a bargain they got, and what a profit they are going to make.”

Murillo has shared why Steve Cooper didn’t pick him when he first came to Forest and ultimately, he more than proved his worth to the former head coach in the end.

Coming to England is never easy for any South American player but ultimately, he’s taken everything into his stride and become one of the top centre-backs in Europe.

The 22-year-old has some learning still to do. However, he’s growing with every single game he plays and alongside Nikola Milenkovic the pair have been formidable during 2024/25.

Forest tied Murillo to a new deal in January and that should at least ensure the club receive top dollar when the time does come to sell him to one of Europe’s giant clubs.
