Nottingham Forest climbed the Premier League table last night after a 1-0 win under the floodlights against Crystal Palace.

The Reds roared to victory after a narrow victory that came courtesy of another goal from Chris Wood.

Palace did have their chances in the game, with Forest indebted to some brilliant goalkeeping from Matz Sels at times.

But, it’s a third clean sheet of the campaign for Nuno Espirito Santo’s team who go to eighth place ahead of Friday’s clash with Leicester.

There were a number of top performances at the City Ground last night as the Forest head coach watched from the stands.

Espirito Santo is serving a touchline ban for his conduct during a 2-2 draw with Brighton and he would have been impressed with his team’s character last night.

Jamie Carragher and Danny Murphy agree on Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson

The Reds were spirited last night and right now, the squad has a number of players who simply don’t know when to stop.

Alan Smith hailed Elliot Anderson as ‘like Lionel Messi’ during the encounter and it was a good night for the midfielder.

With Morgan Gibbs-White banned and injured, it was Anderson who stepped into the number 10 breach and he didn’t disappoint.

Danny Murphy was very impressed and said on TalkSPORT (9:24pm; 21/10): “Well, it's a tale of two keepers in many ways, but just before this goal goes in, Elliot Anderson again is the one who is trying to break lines and run in behind, constantly on the move and trying to impact the game. What that does is it means Palace have to drop off.”

Jamie Carragher agreed, saying on Monday Night Football: “Anderson has been fantastic.”

Anderson is money well spent by Forest

When the news came out over this deal, £35 million for Anderson seemed very excessive for a player who hadn’t really held down a spot at Newcastle.

But, with Odysseas Vlachodimos soon heading to St James’ Park for £20 million, it soon became apparent that this deal wasn’t quite so bad after all.

Anderson has featured in every Premier League game so far this season and has already operated in a number of positions.

At 21-years-old he has bundles of potential and he’s exactly the sort of signing that every Forest fan can be unanimous and support.

Last night, Anderson showed his brilliance with the ball at his feet and even put in a couple of really good crosses.

Espirito Santo will be delighted with the performance of the versatile player and he will hope to stay in the team following his showing against Palace.
