A former Derby County coach has suggested that Nottingham Forest were lucky to draw against Liverpool on Tuesday night.

Chris Wood gave the hosts the lead early into the first half after Anthony Elanga’s perfectly-weighted pass fell to the feet of the New Zealand international, who scored his 13th Premier League goal of the season.

League leaders Liverpool showed their resolve however and equalised via substitute Diogo Jota in the second half.

Liverpool boss Arne Slot was frustrated by Forest’s alleged time wasting during the game but if truth be told, a draw seemed fair.

Matz Sels was praised for his incredible display as he made five crucial saves to extend Forest’s unbeaten run to seven games.

There was also plenty of love from football fans for Murillo’s performance but not everyone felt Forest were as deserving of a draw.

Former Derby coach Jody Morris thinks Liverpool deserved to beat Forest

Nobody can deny that Liverpool were the more dominant out of the two when it came to shots and possession throughout the game.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side once again put in a display that showcased exactly why they have the best defence in the league this season and withheld a barrage of pressure from the away side in the second half.

Across the 90 minutes, Liverpool had 70 per cent possession in comparison to Forest’s 30, as well as outnumbering them on shots by 23 to six.

Stats like these tell a different story to the resilient display on the pitch and according to former Derby County coach Jody Morris, Forest rode their luck.

He tweeted: “Liverpool have battered Forest tonight. The game of football can be misleading.”

Slot was seemingly in agreement, admitting to BBC Sport that he was a “little bit disappointed” with the outcome of the result, despite being impressed with the way his side never gave up.

Nuno Espirito Santo issues heartfelt message to Nottingham Forest fans

Keeping Liverpool at bay was always going to be a monumental challenge and the hosts did an excellent job to come away with a point.

Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo has sung the praises of the City Ground support many times before this season and that was no different as he issued a heartfelt message to the fans inside the ground.

“We cannot thank the fans enough,” he said.

“In the added time they were the ones running for us and pushing the players. This is the bond that we want.”
