Gary Lineker makes joke about Nottingham Forest after tipping them for relegation

Gary Lineker has been the face of football on terrestrial television for a number of years and he’s also anti-Nottingham Forest.

That is perhaps a little bit harsh but his Leicester City ties made him deliver some pretty snappy pre-season predictions.

Forest have made a lot of people feel very silly indeed, with Nuno Espirito Santo’s team currently sitting in fourth place in the Premier League.

Robbie Earle has already changed his mind on Forest this season and the sky looks to be the limit at the moment for the team.

Forest won 2-1 on Saturday as Anthony Elanga won praise from Theo Walcott after his winning goal three minutes into stoppage time.

Following the game, Lineker was in the mood to revise his prediction on Forest once again.

Gary Lineker makes fresh Nottingham Forest prediction

In truth, this one was clearly a bit of fun.

When discussing the unpredictable title race, Lineker answered when Micah Richards asked the Match of the Day anchor who would win the Premier League.

He said on The Rest is Football podcast: “Nottingham Forest. That’s who will win the Premier League, Micah. In fairness, I tipped them for relegation but I’ve owned it, I only did it for a laugh! It’s not easy this tipping lark is it, Forest blimey, what a turnaround!

“In terms of them sustaining it, top four, probably not but finishing in Europe? I can definitely see them sustaining that.”

Lineker won’t be the last pundit to make a foolish Forest claim

Thankfully, it looks as though Forest will finally stay clear of a relegation battle this season and that is a huge relief.

After two seasons of constant looking over the shoulder, it will be nice for Forest to focus on other, more glamorous ambitions instead.

Europe does still look like a bit of a long shot but with eight teams likely to get in this season, Forest have to shoot for the stars.

Nuno Espirito Santo will merely be focused on winning the very next game and hopefully, Forest can continue picking up points over the Christmas period.

It’s already looking like a much better season than the two that have come previously in the Premier League and as a result, a lot of foolish pundit predictions will likely be doing the rounds in the coming months.
