Nottingham Forest made Santiago Gimenez one of their top targets during the summer transfer window but the pursuit proved in vain.

Forest had a chunk of money set to one side to try and land a new talisman but it was refreshing to see the club now waste it on any old striker.

The Reds wanted a new player who could provide competition and a different option to Chris Wood and Taiwo Awoniyi.

Eddie Nketiah was another name targeted by Forest but he chose to remain in London and sign for Crystal Palace instead.

Another name was Omar Marmoush but Forest didn’t feel he was worth the £28 million that Eintracht Frankfurt wanted for his services.

For a long time, it looked as though Gimenez would be the man for Forest and now he’s copping some flak for his form since the decision came that he would remain with Feyenoord.

Journalist thinks Santiago Gimenez wanted Forest transfer

Mikos Gouka has delivered a scathing verdict on Gimenez over his form for Feyenoord since the failed move to the City Ground.

He’s been speaking to Soccer News and he’s made the claim that he’s playing like a man who actually wished he’d joined Premier League outfit Forest in the summer.

Gouka said: “There are a number of seniors who are not showing it yet, with Santiago Gimenez the lead.

“If you look at his matches honestly, you don’t see a striker of whom you think he stayed happily despite the fact that Forest wanted to pay £30 million.

“You see a striker who is thinking: if only he had said yes to that offer.

“The transfer window will haunt Feyenoord for a while. There are simply no replacements for a number of positions and what is behind them are players who need more time.”

Forest could walk away from Gimenez for good

With Forest unbeaten in four Premier League games, there is a sense that a good season can be in store for the Reds.

Now, it will be fascinating to see what the club decides to do in January and whether or not the club will try and sign another striker.

It’s a tricky window to do business in January and with Gimenez failing to score since the window closed, Forest might start looking at other options.

A number of claims were made in the summer, with one of them that Gimenez didn’t want to play for a team that would struggle in the Premier League.

That sort of mindset isn’t ideal and that might have annoyed the Forest hierarchy to the point where the club doesn’t revive their interest.

It’s interesting that a journalist thinks Gimenez is now regretting his choice and it will be intriguing to discover what the stance of Forest is in the future.
