Nottingham Forest have to get rid of £40,000-a-week forgotten man, he earns more than Murillo - opinion

Nottingham Forest did some fantastic work during the summer transfer window and managed to bring quality to the football club and streamline things in the process.

The Reds added 11 new players with two of them – Marko Stamenic and David Carmo – joining Olympiacos on loan for the 2024/25 campaign.

Perhaps most crucially, however, was the decision made by Forest to offload – either on loan or permanently – over 20 players in a clear effort to clear the decks.

The Reds didn’t use the loan market particularly well last season and as a result, all of the loan signings from last season returned to their parent clubs.

Despite the hard work, Forest still have one straggler who they simply couldn’t get rid of in the summer and that has to change very soon

Nottingham Forest have to make brutal decision over Emmanuel Dennis

The one player who remains at the club with absolutely no chance of getting a chance under Nuno Espirito Santo is the Nigerian striker Dennis.

Dennis signed for Forest in 2022 for £20 million shortly after the Reds had won promotion to the Premier League.

It quickly became quite evident that Dennis wasn’t really a signing fancied by Steve Cooper and a large amount of his minutes came from the bench.

In 25 appearances for Forest, he managed just two goals and three assists, whilst he’s also spent time on loan with Watford and Basaksehir in Turkey.

Dennis earns £40,000-a-week and it’s extremely disappointing that Forest couldn’t get him off the wage bill, with star man Murillo only earning £30,000-a-week at the club!

Forest should pay Dennis up and move on from poor signing

This is what happens when too many ideas are thrown into the mixing pot when it comes to recruiting players in the Premier League.

Dennis was a signing likely sanctioned by Evangelos Marinakis on the back of some information from someone outside of the recruitment circle.

At 26, Dennis must be regretting his decision to join Forest back in 2022 even if it did mean a chance to remain as a Premier League player following relegation for Watford.

During his maiden campaign with the Hornets, he scored 10 goals and on the face of things, it looked a positive signing for Forest.

However, he’s proved a real waste of wages since signing for the club and perhaps one blemish from this summer is that Forest couldn’t move Dennis on.

Now, the time looks to have come to seriously consider paying up the striker and moving on from a somewhat embarrassing episode.
