Nottingham Forest player ratings vs Luton: Ramon Sosa superb but another 9/10 star slipped under the radar
01/11/2025 11:52 AM
Nottingham Forest knocked Luton Town out of the FA Cup this afternoon at the City Ground as Nuno Espirito Santo secured progression to round four.
After the opening 45 minutes, it was looking like a routine win for Forest who dominated possession and held the lead through a Ryan Yates header.
The second half proved routine as well with Ramon Sosa firing in a second goal to give the Reds a cushion.
Forest made 11 changes to the starting eleven with one eye on that mouthwatering clash against Liverpool on Tuesday night.
Graeme Souness has claimed that Forest might be the closest title rivals to Liverpool and that is quite a statement.
Today it was the turn of the FA Cup to come into focus though and here we’ve looked at the Nottingham Forest News player ratings, with Morato earning the highest score of any player.

Nottingham Forest player ratings vs Luton Town
Carlos Miguel – 7/10
Had very little to do other than a solid save from Liam Walsh in the opening 45 minutes and a stop late on from close range. Coped well though and it has to be said he commanded his box extremely well.
Eric da Silva Moreira – 7/10
Looks very much like one for the future but he gave a good account of himself here up against some competent Luton wingers. From this performance, it’s clear that he loves to get forward whenever he can.
Morato – 9/10
Okay, it was only the team 20th in the Championship that Forest were playing but once again the man signed for £10 million from Benfica didn’t put a single foot wrong from his position at centre-back.
Willy Boly – 7/10
Boly has been linked with a move to the EFL and on this showing he’d be a coup for any club in the second tier. The Ivorian giant did what was required with minimum fuss and gave a professional performance.
Harry Toffolo – 6/10
Much like Moreira, Toffolo looks useful – as he so often does. Was given a a test by the Luton wingers but stood up to the challenge and remains the type of player that Forest love to have in the dressing room right now.
Ryan Yates – 8/10
Started pretty slowly with some stray passes but quickly upped the tempo and scored a brilliant first goal of the afternoon by losing his man and heading beyond Thomas Kaminski. Grew in the second half and was substituted with 17 minutes remaining.
James Ward-Prowse – 8/10
A typical performance from the man on loan from West Ham United. He looked really up for the challenge of proving himself to Nuno Espirito Santo and he kept things ticking over with a number of decent passes and quality set pieces.
Alex Moreno – 7/10
Was afforded a lot of space on the left in the first half and caused some problems for Luton defence. However, he’s much more effective playing in a defensive role and did tire as the game drew to a close.
Jota Silva – 7/10
Teed up Sosa brilliantly for the second Forest goal and saw a lot of the ball in the opening 45 minutes. Silva perhaps needs to keep things simple at certain times but it’s clear that he’s proving a very capable signing in the Forest squad.
Ramon Sosa – 9/10
Richly deserved goal and assist for the player who showcased exactly what he’s capable of with a solid 73 minutes out on the pitch. Sosa hasn’t played much football in his maiden campaign in England but he is clearly a player who Forest can depend on if they need to this season.
Taiwo Awoniyi – 7/10
Gave everything he had but things didn’t quite work out for him in front of goal. One thing that was clearly evident was how sharp and fit he looked – particularly in the first half.
Substitutions
Callum Hudson-Odoi (Sosa 73) – 6/10
Didn’t have too long to impose himself on the game, coming on to see things out. Had a really good chance to score when he cut inside on his right foot but his effort went just over the bar.
Chris Wood (Awoniyi 73) – 6/10
Much like Hudson-Odoi, had very little time to make an impact but did have some good touches during his 17-minute cameo.
Nicolas Dominguez (Silva 73) – 6/10
Barely kicked the ball and did give away a couple of cheap free kicks as he tried to see things out for Forest in the FA Cup.
Anthony Elanga (Yates 73) – 6/10
Showed flashes of his pace and kept the ball pretty well after coming on as part of a quadruple substitution.
Danilo (Ward-Prowse 84) – N/A
Unfair to give him a rating but it’s superb to see him back on a football pitch after breaking his ankle in August.
