'Oh dear': Richard Keys thinks Nottingham Forest player should have seen a straight red card in 2-2 draw

Nottingham Forest and Brighton played out an entertaining 2-2 draw on Sunday.

An early penalty from Chris Wood put the Garibaldi 1-0 up, before two goals in three minutes from Jack Hinshelwood and Danny Welbeck sent Brighton into the break 2-1 ahead.

Ramon Sosa then equalised with his first goal for Nottingham Forest, although Richard Keys believes one of Nuno Espirito Santo‘s men should have seen a straight red card not long after that 70th minute strike…

What Richard Keys wrote about Morgan Gibbs-White

Strangely, the 67-year-old has written in his blog that Morgan Gibbs-White arguably could have been shown a straight red card for his challenge on Joao Pedro in the 83rd minute.

Keys wrote: “Oh dear Rob Jones. What were you thinking? Let's take the sequence of events, that led to three red cards being shown at Brighton, in order.

“Gibbs-White's challenge on Pedro was poor and he should've been booked. In fact, there's a case he should've seen a straight red. There was an identical challenge by Preston's Sam Greenwood that saw him sent off in their game v Blackburn.”

Nonsense.

Jones bizarrely made a gesture with his hands immediately after the challenge to signal that he felt Gibbs-White won the ball, when attempting to calm the complaining Brighton players, only to then brandish a yellow card just seconds later, seemingly due to the influence of his assistant, Anthony Taylor.

How an official can quite clearly tell the world that he thinks a player won the ball, only to dismiss him moments later, is beyond us, and it makes the 37-year-old look quite pathetic, in truth.

Nottingham Forest cannot even appeal

Unfortunately for Nuno, he will have to go without his No.10 when Fulham visit the City Ground on Saturday, as Nottingham Forest cannot appeal a dismissal for two yellow cards.

Speaking on Ref Watch, Stephen Warnock added that he feels this rule should be changed, as there are often dubious dismissals for two bookings.

Only straight red cards can be overturned, so Gibbs-White will sadly have to fulfil his one-match ban, despite the questionable nature of how it was dished out.
