Nottingham Forest drew 2-2 with Brighton in a game that proved entertaining and somewhat controversial throughout.

The Reds held the advantage when Chris Wood scored from the penalty spot – the first time Forest have been awarded a spot-kick since November 2023 in the Premier League.

However, things went south three minutes before the interval, with Jack Hinshelwood and Danny Welbeck scoring to turn the game full circle.

Forest weren’t to be denied though and two substitutes – Jota Silva and Ramon Sosa – combined to score an equaliser and give the Reds a share of the spoils.

Late on Morgan Gibbs-White was sent off for a second yellow card but that shouldn’t take the gloss away from some very solid individual performances.

Lee Hendrie picks out best Nottingham Forest player after draw with Brighton

There were a number of players in the mix for Man of the Match during yesterday’s Premier League game and Hendrie could have chosen a Brighton player.

Hinshelwood and Welbeck were very good, whilst Kaoru Mitoma was a menace throughout the contest.

However, Hendrie plumped for a Forest player and after some solid defensive work, he chose Murillo as the man to take home the trophy.

He said live on Sky Sports: “Yeah, it's the big centre-half, Murillo. I think he has been brilliant, and you can clearly see what he has had to do. Head on a stick – he has had that many clearances today.”

Murillo is going to be important for Forest this season

The 22-year-old is still at Forest and Evangelos Marinakis did remarkably well to keep him on Trentside for another campaign.

It’s thought that Murillo is valued at around £70 million by Forest and it’s perhaps not surprising that nobody came forward with that kind of money.

Once he’s got another year of Premier League football under his belt, however, it will surely only be a matter of time before someone snaps him up.

Murillo was influential again yesterday and it appears that he’s thriving with a new partner – Nikola Milenkovic – alongside him at the heart of the defence.

At 22, the world really is the oyster for Murillo and long may he continue putting his body on the line for the Forest cause much like he did yesterday.
