Given how active Nottingham Forest have been in each and every transfer window since their promotion, it should come as no real surprise to learn that preparations for January are already underway.

How busy Nuno Espirito Santo’s side will be in the winter market, however, depends on a few factors.

One of course, being what position Nottingham Forest find themselves in by the time January arrives.

Maintain their excellent start – Nottingham Forest face Chelsea on Sunday at Stamford Bridge having lost only once so far – and there will be no real need for the sort of desperate rescue job many relegation-threatened clubs use the mid-season window for.

There is also the injury issue to consider.

It is understood that Forest’s midfield duo Danilo and Ibrahim Sangare could return around December time.

Still, given the severity of the injury a stricken Danilo suffered on the opening day and considering the variety of niggling problems that has restricted Sangare’s impact since his arrival from PSV Eindhoven, a reinforcement in the midfield positions would probably be a piece of business most Nottingham Forest fans could get behind.

Nottingham Forest making transfer preparations already

The Telegraph report that preparations for January – as well as the summer of 2025 – are ‘well advanced’ already.

Nottingham Forest wwner Evangelos Marinakis has spent millions investing in the training ground. And, operating out of that base, Forest’s recruitment team are expected to be flexible regarding their future transfer targets with injuries likely to play a role in what positions they prioritise.

The Telegraph adds that Forest also use 20 ‘video scouts’ employed with the focus on looking closely at potential targets flagged up by their impressive statistics. This is the kind of forward-thinking approach most Premier League clubs operate these days.

While the midfield may be an area of consideration – especially if Danilo or Sangare suffer any setbacks – Nottingham Forest may also find themselves pursuing attacking reinforcements again in the coming months.

Omar Marmoush and Assane Diao linked with Nottingham Forest

Forest were without Morgan Gibbs-White in last week’s defeat to Fulham and lacked any sort of a goal threat as a result.

Someone capable of producing something out of nothing, then, would be welcomed with open arms with in-form Eintracht Frankfurt talisman Omar Marmoush one player Nottingham Forest have looked at.

Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez confirmed this week that he turned down a potential £30 million move to the City Ground. Nottingham Forest held talks but could not get a deal done for Gimenez.

"There were two offers on the table,” the Mexican tells reporters. “The one that aired was that of Nottingham and the reality is that we were with many doubts.

“In the end, we decided to stay at Feyenoord primarily for the Champions League."

Forest could be forgiven if they now consider this door closed.

The window to Riquelme Filippi may remain open, however, even if the Palmeiras wonderkid is expected to sign a new contract. Nottingham Forest failed with a £5 million bid for Filippi over the summer.

Meanwhile, Spanish reports claim that Forest are targeting Real Betis attacker Assane Diao too.
