Nottingham Forest have now turned their attention towards the January transfer window as they look to build on their current position in the Premier League.

It’s all good sitting in a European place right now, but there are still 28 games to be played in the remainder of the Premier League season.

Nottingham Forest don’t really have too many improvements to make at this moment in time, with the defence at the top of their game and the midfield supporting Chris Wood fantastically.

The one area that could potentially be looked at is up front, as Taiwo Awoniyi has struggled in the limited minutes he’s had so far this season, which makes a potential Wood injury all the more worrying.

However, it appears as if Nottingham Forest are interested in signing a full-back, and they recently received a boost in their bid to sign one supposed target.

Nottingham Forest receive boost in bid to re-sign Gonzalo Montiel from Sevilla

Gonzalo Montiel, who has been hailed as an ‘animal’, joined Nottingham Forest on loan for the 2023-2024 season, and enjoyed some positive moments in the red shirt but fell out of favour under Nuno Espirito Santo.

We recently shared that Nottingham Forest had been given the chance to sign Gonzalo Montiel in January due to him falling out of favour at Sevilla.

It’s now been reported by Pasion Football (as per Sport Witness) that River Plate will rival Nottingham Forest, Everton and a number of other clubs for the signing.

La Colina de Nervión also state that he has obtained a Spanish passport, meaning he will no longer be a non-EU player. They add this would favour some of his interested parties including Nottingham Forest, Everton, Borussia Dortmund and PSV Eindhoven.

Is this a sign Nuno Espirito Santo is turning to top level experience?

Nuno Espirito Santo already has the experienced Chris Wood leading his line for Nottingham Forest, but the midfield other than Ryan Yates lacks experience.

It’s the same in defence, with Nikola Milenkovic, Neco Williams and Murillo all either lacking Premier League experience or under the age of 30.

Alex Moreno and Ola Aina have top-flight experience and you can tell from their performances this season.

Montiel, who agreed to join for £10 million, knows Forest and even won a World Cup with Argentina, so it won’t take him long to settle at all and he offers that top level experience aspect.
