Report: Nottingham Forest pushing hard to try and sign player with £83m release clause
Yesterday at 05:00 AM
Nottingham Forest are facing Liverpool at the City Ground tonight but when it comes to the January transfer window, things remain active in the background.
The football is clearly the priority of Nuno Espirito Santo right now. However, he suggested yesterday in his pre-match press conference that there will be some activity this month.
Taiwo Awoniyi has been linked with West Ham this month. He has struggled for game time and perhaps letting him leave either on loan or permanently would free up space for another signing.
Another who might leave is Willy Boly who has been attracting interest from the EFL. However, that might not be a deal that comes to fruition with the Forest rearguard becoming the foundation of this magnificent run of form.
Nottingham Forest enter race to sign Richard Rios
It’s no surprise to see Forest enter any race that involves a sought-after South American player. The Reds have a brilliant track record with that market and now another name has emerged.
According to Caught Offside, Forest are keen to sign Richard Rios before the transfer window closes. Tottenham and Everton are also providing interest from the Premier League.
Rios has a release clause of £83 million and that suggests how highly he’s rated by Palmeiras. Still, that valuation is unlikely to be the sum that would tempt the Brazilian outfit into doing business and the actual fee will be considerably less.
Rios has been capped 19 times for Colombia and has also bagged two goals. He typically operates as a central midfielder and has showcased versatility to play in a number of roles from the engine room.
The 24-year-old player made 49 appearances in all competitions during the 2023/24 campaign, scoring four goals and claiming five assists to catch the eye of clubs across Europe.
Forest already linked with Igor Jesus
It would appear that South America is going to be the market to target once again this month as the Reds go in search of possible reinforcements.
Igor Jesus has been linked with Forest this month. Arsenal were the favourites to sign him but they only fancied signing him on loan and that was refused by Botafogo who would only consider a sale.
Forest are almost certainly going to try and sign a striker this month. Awoniyi has been linked with an exit and if he does leave that will leave Chris Wood as the solo striker at the club.
With European football within reach of Forest, Espirito Santo will want to ensure he’s well-stocked. As a result, the Reds might just do a few bits of business as the window gets nearer to closing for the final time this season.
