Nottingham Forest and VAR haven’t enjoyed the best of relationships so far this season, and it’s making Nuno Espirito work on more things in training.

Nottingham Forest have had a number of run-ins with referees and VAR in recent weeks.

Morgan Gibbs-White was hit with the most frustrating of decisions, as he was given his marching orders for a tackle by Rob Jones.

An independent panel even found Gibbs-White not guilty 3-2, but that didn’t change the fact that he had to serve a one match suspension.

Murillo and Anthony Elanga were also on the wrong side of decisions most recently, which influenced the 1-0 loss against Fulham at the City Ground.

Interestingly, VAR has forced Nuno Espirito Santo to work on a few new things in training.

What Nuno Espirito Santo has been working on in training

Nuno Espirito Santo is slowly starting to work his magic at Nottingham Forest, with just one win to his side’s name in the current campaign.

A number of signings have really improved the squad depth, and the likes of Elliot Anderson and Ramon Sosa have already had a positive influence.

VAR was brought in to make things better, but it’s actually made Forest have to work harder in training.

According to John Percy, Nottingham Forest have put even more emphasis on the timing of runs, forward movements and when defenders step up in training.

Nottingham Forest can’t get tangled up in VAR worries

It’s a shame that the PGMOL can’t put in extra training to get their referees to a better standard.

Sadly, it’s getting to the stage where teams can miss out on European places through no fault of their own, with very little repercussions for the officials.

The fact that teams have to put extra practice into certain things because of VAR just highlights the negative impact it’s having on the game.

Fans can’t even celebrate goals nowadays without knowing if a goal is going to be given.
