Nottingham Forest prioritised quality over quantity during the summer transfer window and enjoyed a fruitful window.
The only blemish for Forest was the lack of a striker being added to the ranks, despite fighting tooth and nail to add one.
Santiago Gimenez rejected Forest on a number of occasions and he was the one the club really wanted.
Aside from a striker though the business was good and the profile of the players added was an extremely positive aspect.
Forest targeted young players with buckets of potential who could help the club not only in the short-term but also in the future.
With that strategy, there were always going to be ones who got away and the Reds Reds were left frustrated in their attempts to sign some players.
Journalist says Unai Emery ended Nottingham Forest hopes over Lamare Bogarde
Bogarde was a £4 million target for Forest during the summer – and it appears as though the player wanted the move.
Instead of preparing for a game against Ipswich this weekend, however, Bogarde will hope to feature against Juventus in the Champions League.
The versatile defender has featured six times for Villa and that’s largely down to the fact that Unai Emery wanted to keep him.
Voetbal Primeur journalist Dennie van Laar said on the Done Deal podcast: “Emery put a stop to that transfer.
“They wanted him for £4 million but Emery wanted to keep him at Aston Villa and give him a chance.
“Nottingham Forest really had serious money for him and the player was keen.
“A number of clubs also showed serious interest in the young talent.
“Emery has proven to be a man of his word. Bogarde was given his chance and Villa did not lose a single time in all the matches. I would field him more often.”
Forest must continue their summer strategy when it comes to recruitment
Despite the setback over Bogarde, Forest have to keep looking at this type of profile.
The Dutchman is only 20 and he looks set for a really bright future, with it proving no surprise that Villa wanted to keep him.
Bogarde is a product of the youth academy at Villa Park and ultimately they aren’t the sort of club that wants a reputation for selling off talented youngsters.
Forest must take this one on the chin but that shouldn’t stop the club’s recruitment team from scouting the globe for many players with a similar profile.
