What the national media are saying about Neco Williams' Wales display vs Iceland
11/20/2024 01:00 AM
Neco Williams has had to settle for a backseat at times for Nottingham Forest, but he’s still a regular on the international stage for Wales.
Nuno Espirito Santo has been blessed with a number of options at full-back, and currently the likes of Ola Aina and Alex Moreno occupy the first choice right back and left back roles.
Neco Williams just hasn’t been able to assert himself really in the Premier League this season and looked bit suspect defending at times.
Despite playing just 44 minutes since September in the top flight, he’s still getting the recognition of Craig Bellamy on the international stage with Wales.
He started against Turkey in Wales’ 0-0 draw and he kept his spot against Iceland, though it was a rather quiet night for the 23-year-old.
What the national media said about Neco Williams’ display for Wales against Iceland
Neco Williams got another 90 minutes under his belt from right-back against Iceland.
It was a fairly easy night for the defender and the national media were mixed in their response.
Here's what the Wales Online said.
7/10 – "Typically assured defensively and contributed to the transitions too. Cleared an effort off the line at a decisive time."
Clwbpeldroed stated.
5/10 – "A quiet night from Neco who didn't have a major effect on the game.”

Neco Williams’ performance in numbers against Iceland
Neco Williams was switched over to right-back last night after starting at left-back against Turkey.
He made two clearances, blocked one shot, made one tackle, one clearance off the line, one error which led to a shot, won five of his 11 duels, lost possession 11 times, committed one foul, had 62 touches, a passing accuracy of 88%, failed both his crosses, completed one long ball and failed both his dribble.
It’s unlikely that Williams will force his way into Nuno’s immediate thinking after his display, though it won’t have mattered even if it was a 10/10, as Moreno and Aina are very secure right now.
