Yağız Sabuncuoğlu is one of the most prominent football journalists in Turkey. He breaks lots of transfers, and was even first with reporting Guido Rodriguez was off to West Ham last week, information he found out via Fenerbahce being keen.

Whenever there’s a a big transfer story for a Super Lig club, he’s usually there.

Earlier on Wednesday he published a tweet which stated: ‘Galatasaray reached an agreement with Lucas Digne and made an official offer to Aston Villa. Cenk Ergün started talks with Monchi.’

The Aston Villa player himself then replied directly and ‘Sorry not true’, along with three laughing emojis.

That would usually be that, but Sabuncuoğlu wasn’t prepared to walk away from that reply. Proving how good his sources are, he’s managed to get his hands on the official offer Galatasaray have made to Aston Villa.

That’s for a year loan, with the Turkish club paying the entirety of Digne’s wages.

Now, the Frenchman could say he was replying to the part which says he’s agreed personal terms, so both could have a point here. However, in 2024 it’s unusual for clubs to go ahead and make official offers if they’ve not got the nod from the player’s camp.

Everything is now over to Aston Villa to see if they want to accept, because without that there’s no deal anyway.
