Newcastle United could be set to shatter their own wage structure in a big to retain Alexander Isak’s services as his scintillating form continues to gain admirers.

The Sweden international has been the attacking focal point for Newcastle this season, including their recent EFL Cup final victory where he scored the decisive second goal.

That is why the club are attempting to keep him at St James’ Park as Mick Brown revealed to Football Insider that Newcastle are trying to do anything to agree a new contract with him as attention on the 25-year-old is growing.

Isak’s performances and consistent goal have led to top teams around Europe preparing bids for him as Football Insider reported that Arne Slot wants Isak to sign for Liverpool as he hopes to switch up his attacking options for next season.

However, the Reds aren't the only top Premier League hoping to sign Isak in the summer transfer window.

FootballInsider confirmed in January that Arsenal have also made Isak their top priority this summer as Mikel Arteta wants to sign a striker.

Newcastle are willing to splash the cash

Isak is currently under contract at St James' Park for another three years, but the Magpies don't want to risk losing him and are now set to reward his performances with a hefty wage increase.

According to Give Me Sport, Newcastle are preparing to double Isak's current wages to persuade him to commit his long-term future at the club.

It would be an expensive deal and something that would see him earn more than £200,000 per week, but the club believes he warrants that type of contract.
