"Negotiators have to solve it" – Celtic player admits he's largely powerless over transfer

Celtic loaned out Gustaf Lagerbielke to Eredivisie side FC Twente in the summer transfer window.

This happened after the defender played only ten times in all competitions for Celtic during the 2023/24 season, and was denied moves midway through the season.

Things look better the Swede in the Netherlands, where he’s played 27 times in all competitions for Twente.

The Celtic loanee spoke to Fotbollskanalen about his future and when asked about his time at Twente so far and whether he’ll be staying, he said: "I have learned now from being abroad.

"You don’t have much to say about everything all the time. I just focus on the next game, even if it sounds cliché. Then the negotiators will have to sort it out."

When asked about whether he has been in contact with any of his Celtic teammates, the defender said: "Not much, actually. I have contact with a few players but no more than that."

He also revealed that he feels very comfortable with his life in the Netherlands, clarifying: "I want to play and I feel very comfortable in Holland, so I can definitely imagine a future there."

Lagerbielke was asked specifically about whether his valuation could be too expensive for Twente, given there’s been Dutch reports about Celtic potentially asking too high a price.

He responded: "No, I don’t actually know. It depends. If we go to Europe, Twente will have more money to work with. The same goes if we sell any players. That will be up to the sports directors at the clubs."

It’s clear that the 24-year-old would like to stay at Twente, largely because he’s getting regular game time.

Considering how Celtic had no plans for him last season and didn’t consider him to be an important player this season, the price may not be as difficult a hurdle as some expect.

As of now, Brendan Rodgers' side have a host of options at centre-back and that is why it would be wise to move Lagerbielke on.
