'Already': Alan Shearer makes claim about Elliot Anderson after watching him star against Liverpool

To say that Elliot Anderson has hit the ground running at Nottingham Forest since leaving Newcastle United is probably a bit of an understatement.

Anderson has already been brilliant under Nuno Espirito Santo, a big reason why Forest have started so well.

Meanwhile, back at Newcastle, performances haven't quite clicked under Eddie Howe this term, but results have still been excellent on the whole.

It would probably be too strong to say that Newcastle already regret letting Anderson leave, especially given they've just recovered Sandro Tonali, but the circumstances of his exit were definitely not ideal.

Newcastle felt as if they were forced to sell Anderson amid their PSR struggles, and ended up effectively swapping him for Odysseas Vlachodimos and a sum of money – a deal in Forest's favour.

Alan Shearer amazed by ‘incredible’ Elliot Anderson in shock win over Liverpool

Given the level of his performance against Liverpool last weekend, Alan Shearer has included Anderson in his Team of the Week, incidentally alongside three other Forest players.

Ola Aina, Murillo and Alex Moreno were all also included after their excellent individual displays.

And when it came to Anderson, Shearer was simply blown away by the 21-year-old's work-rate, a player evidently enjoying his football.

Shearer stated: "His work-rate at Anfield was incredible, with the former Newcastle midfielder already looking comfortable at his new club.”

Of course, it is notable, as Shearer claims, that Anderson has been able to settle at Forest so quickly this season.

Newcastle are still helping William Osula settle for example, a player of the same age who also has Premier League experience.

Newcastle failed with their own Forest raid

Of course, amid the movement between the two clubs this summer, it's still interesting to remember that Newcastle made a late bid for Anthony Elanga.

Howe is already having a bit of an issue settling on a right-winger so far this season, explaining why the club were keen to find an upgrade on Miguel Almiron.

But Forest's decision not to sell Elanga looked like an obvious one so late in the window, a player they would need adequate time to replace.

Both Elanga and Callum Hudson-Odoi were expertly deployed off of the bench against Liverpool by Nuno, who got his tactics spot on.

And it's clear to see that Anderson is enjoying working under the Forest manager as much as anyone right now.
