It's fair to say that Tottenham Hotspur haven't had the start to the new season that they imagined – Ange Postecoglou is cutting a frustrated figure right now.

Eventually Postecoglou saw his Tottenham side overcome Coventry City on Wednesday evening, a match won by heavily-criticised winger Brennan Johnson.

In truth, Johnson has never deserved the harsh words sent in his direction, a player who is truly being judged by his price tag.

That being said, it wasn't just a night of redemption for Johnson, Djed Spence also came off of the Spurs bench to grab the equalising goal, a player who's been handed a second chance.

Although Spence's second chance has come with a slight caveat – he's not been included in Tottenham's Europa League squad.

Tottenham will already be regretting their Djed Spence decision

Spence replaced Destiny Udogie at left-back at half-time and shone in the process, truly making the most of his 45 minutes.

Udogie has been criticised by Jamie Redknapp this season, who thinks the full-back's form has worsened.

In his place, Spence proved that he can play as an inverted full-back, even on the left.

And as well as scoring his goal, the English defender also caught the eye with a crucial interception in his own box.

Of course, it was the kind of performance which makes Tottenham's decision to omit Spence from their European squad appear as a huge mistake.

Postecoglou explained his Spence decision at the time – stating that the club had numerous options at right-back.

But with Spence now an exciting option on the left, some Spurs fans will be frustrated.

Dominic Solanke fails to score against Coventry

Against Coventry, Dominic Solanke was also handed his third appearance in a Tottenham shirt, presumably with Postecoglou hoping he could bag a goal.

However, Solanke didn't find the back of the net and was replaced by Son Heung-min just after the hour mark.

Reflecting on the performance, Redknapp was frustrated with Solanke's service, saying the striker didn't hade the platform to succeed.

Of course, in that regard it was worrying to see Wilson Odobert leave the pitch injured, an issue which Postecoglou wasn't too optimistic about.

A tough period for Tottenham, who will be hoping to bounce back in the Premier League when Brentford arrive in N17 this weekend.
