One player who Ange Postecoglou did not previously take a liking to at Tottenham Hotspur has just committed his long-term future to the club.

As Postecoglou’s players return from the international break, the Australian boss must find a way of turning his team’s fortunes around.

Defeat against Brighton means that Spurs now made their worst start to a Premier League campaign in 16 years with the team sitting ninth in the table and having taken just 10 points from their first seven matches.

The North London club are facing a busy few weeks as they play four matches in the space of 11 days with games against West Ham, AZ Alkmaar, Crystal Palace and Manchester City.

Djed Spence signs new Tottenham contract

Djed Spence has completed his remarkable turnaround at Tottenham by putting pen to paper on a new contract until 2028.

The 24-year-old’s career in N17 has been far from plain sailing with the defender having struggled to nail down a regular spot in the team.

Despite having signed over two years ago, Spence has made just 10 appearances for the Lilywhites and has been sent out on loan to three different clubs.

However, after returning from a loan spell at Genoa, he has looked focused on Tottenham and during pre-season Postecoglou has brought him back into the fold.

The Australian coach has spoken fondly of him this campaign and despite not being included in Spurs’ Europa League squad, he now emerged as a key squad player.

When will Djed Spence play?

For certain, Spence will not feature in Europe until the group stage has finished as he was not registered in the squad.

The full-back has proven that he can play on either side which increases his chances of playing, however, both Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie remain nailed starters.

He is therefore unlikely to start in the Premier League either meaning the best he can hope for at this moment in time is Carabao Cup games.

Spurs face Man City in the EFL Cup at the end of October and that could be Spence’s chance to make his first start of the campaign.
