Tottenham coach Ange Postecoglou's claim that being a manager is tougher than being Prime Minister left Jim White aghast on talkSPORT.
Spurs faced Manchester United in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup on 19 December as the Australian coach continues attempts to bring some long-awaited silverware to the club.
Despite speculation about a potential sacking, the club are backing Postecoglou and already have plans for reinforcements in January.
The former Celtic coach stated ahead of this game that being a football manager is the "hardest job”, comparing it to politics.
He said, via The Telegraph: "This job is the hardest job now in any walk of life. You can say politics, but this is harder than any job.
“The tenure and longevity of this role now means that you go into it and very few are going to come out of it without any scars".
When asked if being a football manager is a harder job than that of Keir Starmer as Prime Minister, Postecoglou replied: "How many times does he have an election? I have one every weekend, mate. We have an election every weekend and either get voted in or out".
White read these comments on talkSPORT, exclaiming, "Really?" and repeated saying, “It’s a tougher gig than Sir Keir Starmer?” with surprise.
He also said, “I really like Ange Postecoglou. I have a lot of time for him. I like his bluntness, he’s to the point. But really?”
Ange Postecoglou could simply be feeling the pressure at Tottenham
Football Insider opinion
Despite backing from the hierarchy, the club currently sits 10th, just outside the automatic spots for Europa League qualification.
Postecoglou faces significant pressure to win a trophy, and Daniel Levy will quickly ensure that the coach takes the brunt of the blame if they fail to secure silverware.
The Lilywhites won 5-0 against Southampton on 15 December, with Postecoglou giving chances to players who haven't featured much, including Djed Spence.
The coach has also publicly criticised players like Timo Werner, a stance that has earned praise from pundits.
This is a critical point in Postecoglou's managerial career in North London. Many feel that the club won't reach the top four through the league, making success in the Europa League or any form of silverware increasingly important.
He has previously claimed that he "always wins things in his second season" [BBC Sport] and it remains to be seen if that will prove true at Tottenham.
In other news, Tottenham are prioritising a specific position come the January transfer window.
