Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez scored the winner for Liverpool but not before leaving Arne Slot was visibly unhappy with him at Brentford, according to Chris Sutton.

The Uruguay international came to the rescue for Slot's side with two stoppage-time goals, earning them a dramatic victory over Brentford.

His first goal came courtesy of Trent Alexander-Arnold, who surged into the opposition box and delivered a cross on his second attempt, which Nunez expertly converted. His second came after a blistering counter-attack, culminating in a thunderous finish.

However, moments before becoming the hero, Slot appeared visibly frustrated after Nunez missed a golden chance set up by left-back Andy Robertson.

Sutton discussed the incident on BBC Radio 5 Live [via BBC Sport's live blog]. He said: "Darwin Nunez has got to hit the target. What a ball from Andy Robertson. It’s a free header seven yards out, he should be burying that.

"You can see the frustration from Arne Slot. Not ruthless enough".

Liverpool must trust in Darwin Nunez ahead of intense schedule

Football Insider Verdict

Slot's frustration with the striker isn't surprising. The chance Nunez missed earlier in the game could have proved costly, but he's a player who thrives on confidence. With these two goals, there's a real possibility this could spark a run of goals for him.

Before this game, he had only scored two goals this season, but he doubled that tally in stoppage time, which will undoubtedly boost his mindset.

He has been in and out of Slot's team, and Football Insider recently revealed that the club is willing to listen to offers for the 25-year-old.

It's fair to say that Nunez hasn't lived up to expectations since his £64 million move from Benfica in 2022 [BBC Sport]. Fans even welcomed the possibility of the club selling him to fund another attacking signing, but those rumours have since faded.

Still, Nunez is capable of producing special moments like this, and with an attack that's constantly evolving, he still has time to make the striker position his own.

As for Liverpool, they remain at the top of the Premier League with a seven-point gap. That may be temporarily, before Arsenal face Aston Villa.

In other news, Liverpool could make an immediate move to sign this Bayern star.
