Arsenal showed keen interest in RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Šeško in the summer window.

Back in June, Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg had reported the Gunners were pushing to sign the striker. As well as the north London club, a few Serie A sides were also named as his suitors.

Arsenal or any other club weren’t able to secure his services as the 21-year-old ended up signing a new contract at Leipzig. His current deal lasts until 2029.

The German club will take on Juventus later today. Ahead of the Champions League tie, Juventusnews24.com had a detailed interview with Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Marco Guidi.

They asked him about the chances of the Slovenia international moving to Serie A in the future.

Responding to that, he said: “By increasing the clause, I believe he becomes an almost unattainable objective for our teams. For age, talent, for the interest of English teams.

“In my opinion he made the right choice by staying at Leipzig, because he is a player with enormous potential but perhaps not yet fully ready for a top-level team. It’ll be difficult to see him in Italy: he seems to me to be the classic player who unfortunately has now gone for our championship.”

The journalist was then asked if there’s a club ahead in the race to sign the player. This is when he gave an insight into Arsenal’s failed efforts to secure his services in the summer window.

“Arsenal looked like they could bring him to England already last summer, then the player also made the choice to stay at Leipzig for at least another season. Arsenal were the team that observed him most closely and made an important financial offer to Leipzig,” Guidi explained.

“In my opinion it is difficult to give a price now, because Šeško’s performances directly affects the price. I believe that next summer we will not go below €70-80m. If he does a lot of good, even more.”

Šeško arrived at the Bundesliga side from Red Bull Salzburg in 2023 and finished his first season with 18 goals and two assists. He has four goals and three assists from seven matches this season.

Mikel Arteta has mainly used Kai Havertz to lead Arsenal’s attack, with Gabriel Jesus as his backup this season.

Taking this into account, the Gunners would look to bring in a new striker in 2025. It’s quite possible Arsenal could return for Šeško next summer.
