Arsenal planning 'amazing' stadium expansion - 'I'm hearing whispers...'

Arsenal opened the Emirates Stadium in 2006 but may not be waiting much longer for a refresh of their 60,704-capacity home.
Clubs like Newcastle, Man United, Man City, Tottenham and Everton have all made moves to increase capacity in recent months and years.
It has been widely reported that Arsenal are ready to follow suit with big investment at their home, which is just metres from Highbury.
Arsenal have fallen short in the Premier League title race this term and will need to supercharge their revenues in order to remain competitive at the top end of the table.
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has revealed what he has heard about the stadium expansion plan.
Arsenal could add third tier at the Emirates Stadium, says Wyness
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, Wyness revealed he has been told that Arsenal are looking at adding a third tier at the Emirates Stadium – which he said could look like Barcelona’s famous Nou Camp.
Man United’s proposed new ground will hold 100,000 fans, while Tottenham’s new build is the next biggest – holding 62,850 supporters.
Club (Stadium) | Capacity |
Man United (Old Trafford) | 74,197 |
Tottenham (Tottenham Hotspur Stadium) | 62,850 |
West Ham (London Stadium) | 62,500 |
Liverpool (Anfield) | 61,276 |
Arsenal (Emirates Stadium) | 60,704 |
Man City (Etihad Stadium) | 52,900 |
Newcastle (St James' Park) | 52,258 |
Aston Villa (Villa Park) | 42,918 |
Wyness has insisted Arsenal must increase their circa-60,000 capacity by 10-15 thousand seats to “stay in the game”.
He told Football Insider's Inside Track podcast: "I remember when the Emirates Stadium opened, it seems like yesterday – but it was quite some time ago.
"Already it has dropped to fifth in terms of stadium size in the UK. Arsenal have ambitions to be at the very top, and that starts with the stadium.
"Other teams are doing things – Man United, Newcastle, Man City, Tottenham. There's a lot of clubs moving forward, nothing stands still.
"It's phenomenal, the pace of change.
"I'm hearing whispers, the architects are looking at putting a third tier in at the Emirates. It would be amazing, it would make it like the Nou Camp.
"If Arsenal want to stay in the game, they'll have to find another 10-15,000 seats."
Bruno Guimaraes to Arsenal update
Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (23 March) that Arsenal are set to find a deal for Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes "too hard to do" in the summer transfer window.
Mikel Arteta's side have already agreed in principle to signing Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi, while they are also keen to land a world-class striker.
RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko is on the radar, while incoming sporting director Andrea Berta is keen on Inter Milan's Lautaro Martinez.
