Aston Villa have 'come in strong' to sign defender Andrés García from Levante, showing a 'firm intention' to secure his signature.

That's according to Super Deporte, who report that the player now seems to be headed to Ason Villa ahead of Sporting Club de Portugal.

The local Valencia newspaper backs up reports from earlier today that Aston Villa are moving for García.

They state that Unai Emery and co have shown a 'firm intention' to sign him this month. According to their information, matters around the player have taken a 'radical turn'.

He had appeared destined to join Sporting, but Aston Villa have now got fully involved in the operation. They've conveyed their desire to sign the Levante youngster and add him to their squad.

They've stepped ahead of Sporting after they opened the bidding for the full-back. They are even considering simply paying his €12m release clause.

García has been left out of Levante's training session today as a result of the interest. That was due to the proximity of an agreement with Sporting. Now Aston Villa are in pole position for him.

They can pay more than their Portuguese counterparts and offer more beneficial terms to Levante. The possibility of him remaining in Spain until the end of the season has been ruled out, though.

He will move to Aston Villa immediately if their sudden and surprise effort ends up with the youngster moving to Villa Park this month.
