Ben Chilwell to Man City: 'Realistic' Chelsea exit update - finance expert

Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell is a “realistic” option for Man City to sign in January rather than more expensive deals, according to Stefan Borson.
Former Man City financial adviser Borson reacted to the Etihad transfer situation via X on 21 December. He said “Players like Ben Chilwell on loan are more realistic January signings”.
This is a response to the back of news that Man City won’t be targeting midfielders such as Martin Zubimendi and Bruno Guimaraes in January [Manchester Evening News].
Despite heavy links to the Newcastle midfielder, it seems the Cityzens are reluctant to spend the money necessary for the Brazilian.
City fell to yet another defeat with a 2-1 reverse at Aston Villa later the same day.
Man City need to spend in January or misery will continue
Football Insider opinion
City have recorded solid financial results for 2023-24 despite their high wage bill, meaning excuses not to spend will be frowned upon.
They are in a dire run of form with just one win in 12 games after their loss to Aston Villa today (21 December).
Signings like Chilwell won't inspire much confidence in fans either, as he's lost his place in Chelsea's team. He's been linked with a move to West Ham, so if Guardiola is considering him, it would be a surprise.
Football Insider revealed that the Manchester club are looking at a high-profile signing to replace legend Kevin De Bruyne, but stop-gap signings and loan deals might also be on the horizon.
Without Rodri last season, we saw Pep Guardiola's side lose to Aston Villa and Arsenal, and that pattern has continued.
They've lost eight in 11 and have no direct replacement. If no one is signed, more losses could follow, as the manager is struggling to adapt.
In other news, Guardiola has been backed to sell “waste” Jack Grealish after the latest set back.
