Liverpool beat Chelsea 2-1 on Sunday, and the standout performer on the day was undoubtedly Curtis Jones.

The midfielder won the penalty for the opening goal and scored the winner against Chelsea on Sunday, and this may have been a breakout performance from Jones.

Indeed, Jones received plenty of praise for his performance against Chelsea at the weekend, and many are expecting the 23-year-old to kick on now.

However, that said, Jones still has a few issues in his game he needs to iron out, and speaking on The Game Football Podcast, Tony Cascarino has noted one big flaw in the Liverpool star's game.

The pundit reckons that Jones' style will lead to injuries as his ability to twist and turn late draws a lot of contact from defenders and that is just asking for an injury.

Curtis Jones will get injured

Cascarino shared the big flaw he's noticed in Jones' game.

The pundit didn't note any technical or physical issues, but he believes that Jones' style will lead to some injury issues in the future.

"I have this theory that between 23-25 you play your best football. You look from De Bruyne to Salah. Curtis Jones, can he now, he's just 23? You become a regular first-teamer and you produce performances," Cascarino said.

"We've seen it at Liverpool that Jones is capable in tight areas of twisting and turning, but I think he has this one big flaw in his game, he's going to get badly injured.

"As we saw with the one where it's nearly a penalty where he gets caught by the goalkeeper, and there were other instances in the game where he's twisting and he gets hit. He plays like an American Footballer, he gets hit a lot because he twists and he turns, and he's good at it."

Jones has had injury problems

Cascarino isn't wrong, Jones' style does lend itself to picking up injuries, and that has been a problem throughout his career in recent years.

Jones picked up a groin injury in pre-season that led to missing a period at the start of this campaign, while Jurgen Klopp noted last season that Jones was playing through injury at times.

So, what can Jones do?

The midfielder can either change his style to evade these challenges, or, as Cascarino has suggested in the past, Jones can hit the gym and try to build his physical stature that bit more.

Jones is a fantastic footballer who is ever-improving, and, as he showed at the weekend, he can be a difference-maker in these big games.

Fingers crossed, Jones can avoid injury for the remainder of this season, because he is a top player when he's fit and firing.

Arne Slot is very lucky to have a player like Jones, and Liverpool need to utilise his talents as much as they can this season.
