Brighton ace Joao Pedro breaks social media silence after bust-up

Brighton forward Joao Pedro has posted on social media for the first time after his controversial elbow incident in their 0-0 draw with Brentford on Friday (December 27).
The 23-year-old played the full 90 minutes as Brighton were held at home by Thomas Frank’s in-form Brentford side, further denting their hopes of European qualification.
Pedro was relatively quiet for most of the game but quickly became the centre of attention in the 77th minute after lashing out and swinging a dangerous elbow at Yegor Yarmolyuk.
Thankfully for the Ukrainian midfielder, Pedro didn’t connect and was controversially spared a red card after a lengthy VAR Check.
Fabian Hurzeler’s side are now six Premier League games without a win, falling to tenth with six wins, eight draws, four defeats, and 26 points from their 18 games.
Brighton ace Joao Pedro a lucky boy after controversial incident in Brentford draw
Pedro’s incident happened after Aston Villa forward Jhon Duran was shown a straight red for a fairly innocuous challenge on Fabian Schar in their 3-0 defeat to Newcastle on Boxing Day (December 26).
The two players clashed as Duran was running through on goal before the striker lost his footing and appeared to accidentally stamp on Schar’s back.
Villa have since had their appeal to have the red-card rescinded rejected by the FA and Duran will have to carry out his three-game suspension.
The Brazilian took to Instagram for the first time after the incident to share a tribute to teammate Solly March, who made his comeback in the draw with Brentford after being sidelined for 434 days with a knee injury.
The striker has been in and out of Brighton’s eleven so far this season, starting 10 of his 12 games across all competitions, scoring four goals, and providing three assists in 861 minutes of action.
Brighton will travel Aston Villa, who will be without Duran, for their final game of 2024 on Monday (December 30).
