Liverpool have some seriously scary players in their squad.

Playing against the likes of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk must be a daunting task for any footballer.

Salah and Van Dijk are two seriously frightening players as they have a combination of strength, speed and skill that only world-class players possess.

Writing in his column for Sportskeeda, Paul Merson has been discussing this Liverpool team, and he's said that there's another player in this squad he'd really hate to play against.

Indeed, Merson says that Cody Gakpo has to start against Bournemouth this weekend, claiming that he's a player he really wouldn't like to come up against.

Paul Merson praises Cody Gakpo

Merson spoke highly of the £44m Dutch attacker.

"Arne Slot has to play Cody Gakpo in this fixture. I thought he was brilliant in the win over Milan. He also performed so well at the Euros, but we haven’t seen the same from him at Liverpool. Gakpo was going past people for fun and making the right decisions at Euro 2024. I’d be shocked if he doesn’t start and as a Bournemouth player I wouldn’t want to face him,' Merson wrote.

Cody Gakpo can be brilliant

Cody Gakpo at his best is absolutely unplayable.

We've not see all that much of Gakpo under Arne Slot yet as Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz have been the preferred options on the wing and through the central attacking slot.

However, when Gakpo is feeling confident and in top form, he's can be a nightmare for any defender.

He's strong, he's fast and he's clinical, there's not much more you can ask for from an attacker.

As Merson says, Gakpo was incredible at the Euros.

The attacker is yet to get into much of a rhythm this season, but if he starts against Bournemouth, don't be surprised if he opens his goalscoring account for the campaign.
