Newcastle won the League Cup last week but question marks linger over the futures of Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak ahead of the summer transfer window.

Both Magpies stars are subject to strong interest from top clubs in the Premier League and overseas after their stunning spells at St James’ Park.

Football Insider revealed on Wednesday (19 March) that doubt will arise over Guimaraes’ long-term future if Newcastle fail to qualify for next season's Champions League and strong offers arrive in the summer window.

Meanwhile, Alexander Isak is seen as the "perfect" signing at Liverpool as Arne Slot searches for a new striker.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has had his say on a potential exit for both stars this summer.

‘Newcastle squad is front-loaded’, says Wyness

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted Newcastle could fund an “overdue” rebuild if they sold both players.

Guimaraes and Isak are under contract at St James’ Park until June 2028.

Wyness claimed the Newcastle squad is “front-loaded” after a lack of recent spending.

He told Football Insider's Inside Track podcast: "The other side of the coin is that if they sell both, it would give Eddie Howe a massive amount of money to do a rebuild.

"You've got to think that the Newcastle squad right now is very front-loaded.

"They spent a lot of money a while ago, they've not spent much in the last three windows.

"It's overdue a bit of a rebuild. I'm expecting some big activity.

"They'll want to keep Bruno and Isak, but if they did sell both – there will be no shortage of buyers, and Newcastle could reconfigure the squad."

Liverpool in pole position to sign Newcastle's top target

Football Insider revealed on Monday (17 March) that Liverpool are in pole position to sign Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi – who is a top target for Newcastle.

The 24-year-old will have just 12 months left to run on his Palace contract in June.

This summer will be the last chance to cash in for Oliver Glasner's side – with Guehi left to weigh up where his future will be.
