Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes sent a message to fans on social media after their shock 4-1 Premier League loss to Bournemouth on Saturday.

The 27-year-old scored Newcastle’s only goal on 18 January as Eddie Howe’s side fell to a major home defeat against fellow Champions League hopefuls Bournemouth.

Justin Kluivert scored his first of three goals after just six minutes, finishing off a lovely move from Antoine Semenyo with a cool finish past Martin Dubravka.

Guimaraes made it 1-1 with Newcastle’s first attempt on goal in the 25th minute, rising above the Bournemouth defenders to head home from a corner.

The Bournemouth winger got his second just before half-time before rounding off his hattrick in added time with a long-range effort that left Dubravka with no chance.

Milos Kerkez then got in on the action, making it 4-1 and securing a valuable three points for Andoni Iraola’s side in the race for the top four.

Bruno Guimares vents frustrations as Newcastle run comes to an abrupt end

The defeat to Bournemouth marks their first in nine games across all competitions, as they climbed into the top four at Chelsea’s expense.

Guimaraes has been key for Howe throughout the whole season, as well as their impressive run, starting 23 of his 27 games across all competitions, scoring two goals, and providing eight assists in his 2213 minutes on the pitch.

Six of those goal contributions had come in their nine-game winning streak, and he took to Instagram after the defeat to Bournemouth to bemoan the end of their run

Guimaraes said: “A difficult day for us, especially considering the winning streak we were on. We will never accept defeat, but we don't have time to dwell on it.

“Saturday, we already have a very important match, and many games are still ahead. Thank you for your support. Restart, refocus, and we go again.”

Newcastle remain in the top four for the time being, but may fall into fifth should Chelsea beat Wolves on Monday (January 20).

Howe’s side will be hoping to get back to winning ways on Saturday (January 25) as they take on bottom-placed Southampton.
