Arsenal star Bukayo Saka supported his teammate from afar after they secured a ‘big’ 3-1 Premier League win over Brentford on Wednesday (January 1).

The 23-year-old is set to be sidelined for “months” after picking up a hamstring injury in their 5-1 win over Crystal Palace earlier in the season.

Mikel Arteta’s side were still able to see Brentford off without their talismanic winger, with the win over Brentford sending them up into second, six points off league leaders Liverpool who have a game in hand.

The home side gave Arsenal an early score with Bryan Mbuemo scoring against the run of play after 13 minutes to give Brentford the lead.

Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus continued his rich vein of form, scoring the equaliser 13 minutes later to send the two sends into the break on level footing.

Arteta’s half-time instructions seemed to work, with the visitors sprinting out of the blocks to go 2-1 up through Mikel Merino in the 50th minute.

Gabriel Martinelli then rounded off the scoring just three minutes later to secure all three points in the first Premier League game of 2025.

Bukayo Saka watches on as Arsenal close the gap on Liverpool at the top of the table

The England international will be a huge miss for Arsenal having starred in the first half of the season, starting 22 of his 24 games across all competitions, scoring nine goals, and providing 13 assists in his 1828 minutes of action.

Saka took to Instagram after the win over Brentford to show support to his teammates, simply captioning his post: “Big!”

Saka will once again be watching from the sidelines as Arsenal face out-of-form Brighton in their second game of 2025 on Saturday (January 4) as they seek to gain further ground on Liverpool.

Arsenal have a tricky run of fixtures throughout January, including games against Newcastle, Man United, and arch-rivals Tottenham.
