Liverpool ace Alexis Mac Allister has received reactions from the likes of Chelsea duo Robert Sanchez and Marc Cucurella, plus Man United’s Lisandro Martinez after his latest update.
Mac Allister recently described the past week or so as being a “painful” one for Liverpool, following several setbacks.
Arne Slot‘s side were knocked out of the Champions League on penalties by French champions PSG, before losing to Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley on Sunday (16 march).
That defeat against the Magpies came in the final game before the March international break, which has now provided some welcome respite to that frustration at club level for Mac Allister.
Alexis Mac Allister edges towards World Cup qualification
With the international break now underway, the Liverpool midfielder has been able to focus on matters away from domestic competition.
Early on Saturday morning (22 March), the 26-year-old started and played 80 minutes for Argentina as they beat Uruguay in World Cup qualifying.
Liverpool last five games | Result |
Newcastle (H) | Won 2-0 |
PSG (A) | Won 1-0 |
Southampton (H) | Won 3-1 |
PSG (H) | Lost 1-0 (lost 4-1 on penalties) |
Newcastle (N) | Lost 2-1 |
Mac Allister was an important player for his national team when they became champions of the World in Qatar back in 2022.
Now, with this victory, Argentina need just a point from their last five games of qualification, starting against Brazil next week, to confirm their place in the finals in North America next summer.
Taking to Instagram to reflect on that win, the Liverpool midfielder wrote: “We keep adding up. Next target in sight! Vamos Argentina!”
In response to that, the Chelsea pair of Sanchez and Cucurella, who previously played with Mac Allister at Brighton both liked the post.
Martinez also did the same, with injury preventing the Man United centre-back linking up with the Liverpool ace for Argentina as he would otherwise have done.
Liverpool will be pleased by Alexis Mac Allister progress
Football Insider Verdict
The fact things are going well for Mac Allister while he is away on international duty will no doubt please those at Anfield.
Things have dipped recently for Arne Slot’s side, which will have been tough to take for the squad given what has been expected of Liverpool this season.
However, the success with Argentina that the midfielder has enjoyed can put him in a good place to finish the season strongly when he returns to Merseyside.
In turn that will help Liverpool as they aim to make sure they do indeed get over the line and secure the Premier League title this season.
