Chelsea are making multiple goalkeeper moves in the January transfer window as they look to manage their bloated squad, reports Nizaar Kinsella on X.

BBC Sport journalist Kinsella has shared that 19-year-old Max Merrick is set to renew his contract with the Blues, and move on loan to Hampton and Richmond.

Ted Curd, a year Merrick’s junior, has been recalled by Chelsea from Hampton and Richmond. Curd had quickly established himself as a starter for the Beavers and kept nine clean sheets in in 22 league appearances for the club. [Fotmob]

It is unclear what is next for Curd, but it would a safe assumption that he will likely be shifted out on loan again.

Chelsea currently have five senior goalkeepers on their books, with Robert Sanchez, Filip Jorgensen, Gabriel Slonina, Lucas Bergstrom and Marcus Bettinelli, while last season’s often starter Djordje Petrovic is on loan at sister club Strasbourg.

Robert Sanchez remains uncertain Chelsea number one

Sanchez has established himself as Enzo Maresca’s preferred option between the goalposts, however, Chelsea fans are beginning to grow frustrated with the Spaniard and believe he is hampering their chances to compete for a Premier League title.

The former Brighton ‘keeper has conceded 23 goals and kept only four clean sheets in 19 league starts for the Blues.

This has led to calls for Filip Jorgensen, who was signed for a fee of £20.7million from Villareal in the summer [BBC Sport], to be given the opportunity as the starting goalkeeper.

Jorgensen has impressed in the Europa Conference League for the Blues and, despite saying he played poorly, kept a clean sheet in his most recent appearance in the FA Cup.

With a plethora of options available to him, Maresca has kept things safe by relying on Sanchez, but if the Blues manager has serious ambitions of winning titles, he will have to find a keeper who can keep clean sheets more reliably.

In other news, a Chelsea star may be making a move to one of their London rivals this January.
