'Chelsea to sell Romeo Lavia' - Fans fume at Enzo Maresca announcement
Today at 02:00 PM
Chelsea fans have reacted to Enzo Maresca’s comments in his latest press conference announcing that Romeo Lavia has suffered another injury setback.
The Blues narrowly avoided defeat against Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge on 14 January, salvaging a 2-2 draw thanks to a stoppage-time goal from Reece James.
Despite the disappointing result, James celebrated his goal on social media, giving fans a moment of relief.
Chelsea now turn their attention to another home fixture against Wolves on 20 January, but mounting injury concerns may cause unease among supporters.
In his pre-match press conference, Maresca confirmed that key players Cole Palmer, Enzo Fernandez, Levi Colwill, and Lavia were unable to train ahead of the upcoming match [Sky Sports via X].
Chelsea fans voice frustration over Romeo Lavia’s latest injury setback
The 21-year-old midfielder has already missed 11 games this season and had only just returned to the starting lineup against Bournemouth. This follows a difficult previous season in which Lavia missed 43 games for Chelsea due to four separate injuries.
Hints of his return first surfaced on social media on 7 January, after he sustained a hamstring injury against Tottenham in December. However, manager Maresca has now confirmed that Lavia has suffered yet another setback.
To compound matters, his side could also be without Fernandez for their upcoming fixture, leaving their midfield looking thinner than ever. Moises Caicedo remains the only fully fit midfielder, but he has been used as an inverted right-back in recent matches.
This reshuffling may present an opportunity for James to reclaim the right-back position, despite Maresca's recent comments that drew disapproval from fans.
Supporters have expressed growing frustration over Lavia's injury struggles, with many now calling for the club to cut their losses.
One fan commented, "Sell him now, get some money for him" while another criticised the decision to sign the injury-prone player, asking, "Where is your due diligence before you buy a player?"
In other news, Chelsea are set to make multiple goalkeeper moves in the January transfer window.
