Christopher Nkunku will need to keep his emotions in check in the wake of the latest Chelsea update ahead of the January transfer window.

Despite playing and scoring regularly in the UEFA Conference League this season, the Frenchman has started just twice in the Premier League, with Nicolas Jackson being preferred in the that competition.

It is understood that has left Nkunku unhappy with his situation at Stamford Bridge although it appears that will not be changing any time soon.

As per an update from The Daily Mail, Chelsea are unlikely to be busy in terms of major signings when the transfer window reopens in January.

Nkunku is apparently therefore likely to be kept as he will be needed if anything happens to Jackson, and so the 27-year-old may need to manage his emotions for the time being.

It is understandable that the Frenchman may not be entirely happy with his situation in London at this moment in time.

He had an excellent goalscoring record at Leipzig, scoring 58 goals in 88 appearances during his last two seasons with the club.

Indeed, even when he has been given the chance for Chelsea, he has often got goals for the Blues, so it makes sense that he may feel he deserves a real chance in the Premier League.

But while he is seemingly not going to get that, or opportunities elsewhere for the time being, he may still need to keep his feeling about all that in check.

Nkunku is still part of a side who are in a very good position at the moment. They look firm favourites to win the Conference League, having been the standout team of the league phase in that competition.

This is also a Chelsea side that is positioned very well to at the very least make the top four in the Premier League this season.

All of that means the Frenchman does still have an opportunity to be a part of a successful campaign in which he could get his hands on silverware, and open up fresh opportunities further down the line.

If though, he lets his frustration show, he may miss out on such chances. Maresca has already shown with Noni Madueke recently that he is not afraid to come down hard on his players if there are issues. He will freeze a player out completely if required.

Nkunku may not want to suffer that fate, given what he could be a part of.

Indeed, with Marc Guiu already being tipped for a chance in the Premier League with Chelsea by some, it is not as if they would be without an alternative back-up centre-forward to Nkunku if they lose Jackson.

All of that means the Frenchman may have to watch how he approaches things in the coming months, if he wants to get as much as possible from his time at Stamford Bridge.

In other news, Chelsea could look to sign a new striker if Mykhalo Mudryk is banned over his failed drugs test.
