Club using Liverpool clash as 'thermometer' test – Could spark big January changes

Real Madrid will use their upcoming clash against Liverpool in the Champions League as a 'thermometer' test on whether they need signings in the January transfer window.

That's according to AS, who say the Spanish giants will remain calm on any potential transfers until they take on Liverpool at Anfield.

The newspaper explains that the current thinking at the club is they will not enter the January transfer window for signings at this moment in time, despite the heavy defeat to Barcelona and the loss to AC Milan.

Instead, those in charge plan to use the Liverpool clash as a test of the squad to help them decide whether they need to make changes.

Most inside the club believe Carlo Ancelotti and his squad will climb out of the deep hole they find themselves in.

It has been noted that the loss of Dani Carvajal has hit the squad harder than expected, though, and the Spanish giants are moving to replace him long-term. That includes their efforts for Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold in recent weeks, presumably.

The hope is that the situation will stabilise and improve in the coming weeks and then the trip to Liverpool on 27 November will be the real test.

A big failure there could lead them to move in January, and even perhaps pick up the pace on their efforts when it comes to Alexander-Arnold.

That is speculation on our part, but it would not be surprising if Madrid also use that trip to Anfield to do further, up close research on the 26-year-old.
