Liverpool could see some significant changes made to their squad over the coming months with contracts dwindling down at Anfield.

It has been a stunning start to the campaign for Liverpool who are setting the pace in the Premier League and Champions League.

Arne Slot’s time on Merseyside couldn’t have gotten off to much of a better start, but there are some off-field issues to deal with.

Mohamed Salah’s contract is set to expire at Liverpool over the summer and he is also joined by Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Jamie Carragher has praised Van Dijk for the form shown by the Dutchman despite his ongoing contractual uncertainty.

But there is now one defender who Liverpool are keen to acquire over the coming months who already thinks he may be better than Van Dijk.

Jonathan Tah says he’s better than Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk

It is believed Liverpool are keen to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah to bolster their backline over the coming months.

The German centre-back is also coming to the end of his contract with Leverkusen at the end of the current campaign.

And in a recent sit down with GOAL, the 28-year-old suggested that he was even better than Liverpool’s captain.

The Leverkusen defender was asked to pick between two players in each position and the centre-back choice came between him and Van Dijk.

He showed little hesitation in backing himself against Van Dijk who is loved by Liverpool fans across the world.

Liverpool are hoping to agree a new deal with Van Dijk which would come as a major boost given his performances have been so impressive under Slot.

Jonathan Tah

It is not just Liverpool who are keen on the defender with Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham interested in Tah.

And it is no real surprise given the level he has been playing at with Leverkusen which saw them lift the Bundesliga title last term.

However, he has compared himself to a defender in Van Dijk who Didier Drogba hailed the best defender in the world.

But if Liverpool could land a player of this quality, it would be a huge boost given Ibrahima Konate has now suffered an injury recently.
