On January 14th, we covered claims from Portugal which stated Nottingham Forest are looking to sign Sporting’s Marcus Edwards in the winter market.

At the weekend, Record stated the Lions are hoping for Nottingham Forest to step up their interest as they’re keen on offloading the 26-year-old.

Monday’s edition of A Bola backs up Sporting’s desire to get rid of the Nottingham Forest target in this window.

The Englishman has less than 18 months left on his deal and there was a debate within the club on whether to renew his contract or sanction a transfer. The winger has scored three goals in 346 minutes from 10 games this season and hasn’t featured since November.

New Sporting manager Rui Borges has left Edwards out of the working group due to disciplinary reasons.

A Bola state Edwards was left out because he turned up late for the camp prior to the tie against Benfica. In addition to this, he showed a ‘disconnected attitude’ with the manager and doesn’t seem to be focused.

Sporting want to get rid of him for €10m in January. The attacker has suitors, without mentioning Nottingham Forest or any other club. Given nobody is pushing for a permanent transfer right now, Sporting are willing to sanction a loan move as it’ll help them save on his €1m per year salary.

Taking the repeat Portuguese reports into account, Nottingham Forest may need to think twice before signing Edwards.
