Arsenal beat PSG 2-0 on Tuesday evening in a solid Champions League performance.

The Gunners were great value for their victory against PSG in this game, and perhaps one of the most interesting aspects of this match was the debut of Mikel Merino.

Indeed, after a shoulder injury, Merino has been unable to feature for Arsenal so far, but he came off the bench against PSG to make his debut for the north London club.

Merino only played around 25 minutes for Arsenal against PSG, but that cameo was enough to impress Ian Wright.

Speaking on the Wrighty's House Podcast, the pundit spoke highly of Merino and his debut, claiming that the Spaniard looked very ready for the task at hand and the midfield looked much stronger when he came onto the pitch.

Ian Wright's verdict on Mikel Merino

Wright shared what he thought of Merino's debut against PSG.

"It was great to see him, delighted to see him come on. Do you know what? He just looked very ready. He did make a good sliding tackle. What was good to see is that he's not kicked a ball for us and the fans were so happy to see him," Wright said.

"We will need him and that energy, when him and Declan were in that midfield its just looked strong, physical and quick, we just looked like we had legs in there."

Mikel Merino could be brilliant

It's very early days, but there's reason to believe that Mikel Merino could be just what Arsenal need.

The Gunners' midfield needs that bit more energy. After all, Thomas Partey and Jorginho are both rather immobile these days, and Merino could be just what the doctor ordered.

Mikel Arteta has claimed that Merino will have a big impact for Arsenal this season, and the ball is now rolling on that front.

Merino could end up being one of the better signings of the season.
