Newcastle United have endured a topsy-turvy season so far.

Eddie Howe has come under fire at times and Monday’s defeat to West Ham United was another bump in the road.

It leaves The Magpies in 10th place heading into the busy festive period, though, they are still within touching distance of the European spots.

Howe clearly needs the January window to bring in further reinforcements after missing out on a number of his targets during the summer.

Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi remains of interest to Newcastle, though, they face competition from Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

Newcastle will also have to battle with interest in some of their star players and TBR Football can provide the latest on Bruno Guimaraes’ situation.

Manchester City want to sign Bruno Guimaraes

TBR Football understands Manchester City are doing their work on potential midfield options in January – however, they will only move for the right player.

TBR can reveal that Newcastle United's Bruno Guimaraes is still seen by many at the club as the ideal signing heading into 2025, but he won't be an option come January.

Guimaraes has spoken recently about the interest from City and his admiration for Pep Guardiola and TBR Football understands that him signing a new contract could help facilitate a future bid.

Guimaraes, who earns around £160k-a-week, is happy and settled on Tyneside, but he wants Champions League football. He wants that to be once again with Newcastle, but if it is not forthcoming his future situation will be assessed.

Man City also eyeing Carlos Baleba

TBR Football can confirm that City are concerned by the recent injury to Mateo Kovacic, which has really impacted their squad given Rodri is already out for the season.

Kovacic is due back before January – but if not, that could see them look to add to their options.

TBR Football understands that Brighton's Carlos Baleba, Sporting's Morten Hjulmand and Stuttgart's Angelo Stiller have been watched by City in recent weeks as they continue to assess possible midfield targets.
